Everyone
wants to write the Great North American Novel.
For most who try, just getting started is
difficult and the process can be very
overwhelming. And when they do get it started,
they soon discover obtaining a traditional
publisher is harder than getting an audience
with the Pope.
There
are so many options for authors to get published
today. These products will give authors
information about the book publishing industry
they can use to make the right choices. There
are things a potential author needs to know
before they solicit a royalty publisher or
decide to do it themselves.

Donations
for Non-Profit Publishing Program
According to ABC Canada, four out of 10 Canadians aged 16 to 65 (nine
million) struggle with low literacy, to which 15
percent have serious problems with printed
materials and 27 percent can only deal with
simple reading tasks. Sixty percent of
immigrants have low literacy.
What
does this mean in real life terms? People have
trouble with reading a prescription for the
right dosage; reading instructions; finding
resources; reading ingredients and being able to
steer away from products one is allergic to.
The program is an educational tool that inspires literacy, creativity, and
inspires people to develop a love for books
and/or writing. It will
help them develop pride in literacy and perhaps
want to pursue it further. It will give
organizations a way to reach their people and
have fun doing it. This
is also a program that can includes both
students and adults, and especially the homeless
and imprisoned.
How
it might work for a resource for at risk
families is: a) children can create small book
in the daycare, picking a topic, researching
that topic, writing about it, and go through the
editing process (which could include peer
editing -- editing someone else's work may have
a stronger impact on learning the skill),
printing the pages and coil bind or saddle
stitch bind. b) parents and children can create
a book together using the same process, and c)
parents could work on a book like a thesis --
researching an issue that has impacted them
(i.e. illness, low self-esteem, domestic
violence) and use an arms length approach to
write about the topic to educate and help others
work through the issues with the research
they've gathered, and at the same time, help
work through the issues themselves.
The
program's goal is to provide the step-by-step
tools and provide training to frontline workers
who would deliver the program -- free of charge.
