BOOK PUBLISHING 101

Is there a book in you?

If you've ever wanted to publish your Great Canadian Novel, don't miss this workshop.

Books offer perceived credibility and expertise in your field. However, book publishing takes a great deal of time and money. It is not for the faint of heart. Even if authors are able to land a traditional publisher, the process and result are generally not what they expected. The learning curve was something they could have done without.

This workshop will alleviate some of the myths of book publishing and help you with the tools you need to make your book come true. You will learn:

  • How the publishing industry works

  • How to get your book close to the top of the slush pile

  • Other ways to get your book to market

  • Tips on how to protect yourself from “book predators”

  • About the process that goes into developing a book

Debbie Elicksen has provided publishing support to authors for over ten years through one-on-one counselling, step-by-step materials, workshops and seminars, and doing the work for them. She has personally authored, ghostwritten, edited, and project-managed over 100 books for both royalty and self-publishers in both Canada and the United States.

She Vice President of the Independent Publishers Association of Canada, member of the Writers Guild of Alberta, and also the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers. As a professional sportswriter, she has covered the National Hockey League and the National Lacrosse League. Among the associations she has worked for are Fischler Sports Service, Sports Network, Associated Press, NBC Sports, New England Sports Journal.
